World Book Day Fantasy Foods

To celebrate World Book Day, we asked traders from across Camden’s markets to recreate some of the most iconic eats from our favourite kids books. During the weekend in March, we transported visitors straight into classic stories like Matilda, The BFG, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe and Alice In Wonderland.

World Book Day is over for this year, but to keep an eye on all the other exciting things happening at Camden Market, head to our events page.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Juice
Very-Hungry-Caterpillar
Once upon a time, there was a very hungry caterpillar...

Just like the Very Hungry Caterpillar, we’re feasting on juicy watermelon too – this time in the form of a delicious drink. Our resident fruity bunch Juice Junkiez are making watermelon juice by hand all weekend – and you get to drink it straight from the fruit too!

The BFG’s Frobscottle
BFG
"A whizzpopper!” cried the BFG

What’s that? A drink where the bubbles go down instead of up? Bubble Tea experts Temple of Boba have brought the BFG’s famous frobscottle to life with a super-slurpable green, sparkly drink with chewy bubbles. Beware of whizpoppers!

Bruce Bogtrotter’s Famous Chocolate Cake
Matilda-Hero
It's rich and delicious, isn't it, Bogtrotter?

Go on Brucie! Reading Roald Dahl’s Matilda definitely leaves everyone with a craving for cake, and we couldn’t resist getting sweet-toothed trader DZRT in Hawley Wharf to serve up slabs of chocolatey goodness for World Book Day weekend.

The Mad Hatter’s Eat Me Cookies
Alice-in-Wonderland
She opened it, and found in it a very small cake, on which the words 'eat me' were beautifully marked

We can’t resist a cookie on a normal day, so these Eat Me cookies are even more tempting! Straight from the table at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, these biscuits might be huge, but (unlike Alice) they don’t come with a side effect of increased size…

The Finest Turkish Delight
Turkish-Delight
“What would you like best to eat?” “Turkish Delight, please, your Majesty,”

Just like the C S Lewis book (but with less lions, witches and wardrobes) the West Yard Café in Camden Market are serving lashings of frothy hot chocolate with jewel-like Turkish delight all weekend.

Munch, munch, munch went the caterpillar...

Switch roles and become the very hungry caterpillar yourself with this colourful corndog. A very unique treat, there are sausage and cheese fillings and a crispy coating…
